Jenoptik’s Industrial Metrology Division wins major order

The world-wide presence of this Jenoptik division was the decisive factor in the award

Jena, (PresseBox) - The Jenoptik Group has won a major order from Continental AG, a leading international company in the automotive-supply industry. The Jenoptik Industrial Metrology division will be supplying systems and machines to Continental's Powertrain Division. The decisive factor in awarding the tender to Jenoptik was its world-wide presence and its expertise in all aspects of various measurement technologies and measurement tasks.

This major order will cover the complex measurement of seven different components in a new diesel injection system for HGVs which is being produced in the USA. Jenoptik will equip the entire production line and sections of the metrology room with measurement systems and will be installing optical, pneumatic and tactile measurement machines and equipment as early as this year. The order will involve all sections of Industrial Metrology, which will therefore be able to supply systems to cover all the measurement tasks required under this comprehensive major order, and to do it from one source.

Since its merger with the Etamic Group, Jenoptik's Industrial Metrology division has had a world-wide presence and enjoys comprehensive expertise in all the main measurement technologies in-process, post-process, optical, tactile and pneumatic. It measures size, roughness, contours and parameters of form and position. Following the acquisition and rapid amalgamation to form Hommel-Etamic, Jenoptik has become a system supplier for industrial metrology world-wide and has acquired the qualifications for major global orders covering all technologies.

In the USA the Jenoptik Industrial Metrology division operates a production and sales centre in the automotive city of Detroit with a current workforce of nearly 100. In the course of realigning the Jenoptik Group to become more market and customer-oriented Jenoptik had acquired the outstanding 75 percent of the shares in the US company Detroit Precision Hommel, Inc., based in Rochester Hills, MI, near Detroit, in April 2007 thus getting direct access the North American market. At the end of 2007 Detroit Precision Hommel, Inc. and Etamic Corp., Plymouth, also based near Detroit, were combined at one location and merged to form Hommel-Etamic America Corp. A range of synergies due to the integration of both sites resulted in cost advantages and a significant expansion of the service business in the United States. The new major order confirms that the division has successfully established itself as system provider for industrial metrology in one of the major growth markets with is of great importance for Jenoptik.
