Jenoptik is awarded another multi-million order from the solar industry

The technology group is equipping an entire production line for thin-film solar cells with systems for the structuring and edge deletion processes

(PresseBox) (Jena, ) The order to equip a solar cell production line with the entire structuring and edge deletion systems will enable the Jenoptik technology group to expand its position in this market and strengthen its technology portfolio in the growth business of the solar industry. The systems will be installed in a thin-film solar plant in Asia. Delivery is to be in the second half of 2008.

Jenoptik Automatisierungstechnik is consequently developing from being a provider of individual structuring systems to a supplier for all application-specific, mass production solutions for use in the structuring and edge deletion process in the manufacture of solar cells. The customer can therefore call on know-how in the area of machine construction gained over many years, as well as innovative development teams working in the technology field. The outstanding features of the JENOPTIK-VOTANTM G Flow systems are their maximum precision and process stability.

The solar cell consists of a number of thin films which are applied onto a substrate. After each film has been applied high-precision structuring lines are generated in the films which are just a few micrometers thin. The JENOPTIK-VOTANTM G Flow systems are used to carry out this process. A specially adapted technology is deployed for each structuring process. Depending on the layer system this can be for example laser structuring for the base metal layer and mechanical scribing for the semiconductor and metal oxide layers. The edge deletion can also be made by laser.

Costumers can count on the services of our application center. To intensify the market support in the future Jenoptik is continuing to invest in its costumer application center. Still this year also costumers from the solar industry will have production systems for tests of all relevant thin-film structuring processes at their disposal.
