Pharmavite Achieves Impressive Service Level Increase Using JDA Software
JDA Collaborative Solution Enables Nature Made Vitamin Maker to Fortify Supply Chain
Scottsdale, Ariz. - September 24, 2003 - JDA® Software Group Inc. announced that Pharmavite LLC, manufacturer and distributor of Nature Made® vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements, increased service levels from 90 to 99 percent in just three months as a result of using Portfolio Marketplace Replenish™. Since initiating a VICS®-compliant Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR®) program in March 2003 with $15.1 billion Rite Aid Corporation, Pharmavite has achieved other measurable results including:
· Nearly doubled inventory turns;
· Increased promotional sales and significantly reduced out of stocks;
· Decreased forecast error rates by almost one third.
“Rising health care costs and the frenetic pace of modern life have driven consumers toward disease prevention, stress reduction and a strong interest in wellness. By collaborating with Rite Aid using JDA’s Marketplace Replenish, we’re addressing this increased consumer demand through enhanced insight into product flow,” stated Art Karrer, Pharmavite’s manager of customer collaborative processes. “As a result, we’re also able to identify and address any problems before they turn into major supply chain headaches.”
According to Karrer, Pharmavite has long recognized the potential for significant supply chain savings if the company and its retail partners were open to process changes and recurring, meaningful communication. Based on Pharmavite’s strengths as a supplier, Rite Aid approached the vitamin manufacturer to elevate its relationship into a partnership of collaboration and shared knowledge.
Remarked Jason Burnett, Rite Aid’s director of replenishment, “Pharmavite’s commitment to quality supply chain systems and quality supply chain managers makes them a perfect collaborative partner.”
Pharmavite Finds Fast Relief with JDA Collaborative Solution
Pharmavite and Rite Aid started achieving benefits within weeks of launching the collaborative program.
“We achieved incredible supply chain savings thanks to several key processes supported by Marketplace Replenish including demand forecasting, seasonal profiling, collaborative order review and execution, scorecarding, and exception management,” stated Terry Moody, Pharmavite’s collaborative forecast planner.
Added Moody, “As a result of our strengthened partnership with Rite Aid, we can now place a greater emphasis on planning. By speaking regularly with the Rite Aid team during the planning and execution phases, we’re positively impacting the bottom line at all points of the supply chain.”
JDA Provides A Logistics Remedy
Rite Aid and Pharmavite’s comprehensive CPFR program is generating efficiencies for business processes beyond forecasting and order execution. For instance, Pharmavite has increased productivity at its distribution center.
“We’ve analyzed lead times and adjusted for greater efficiencies. More intelligent order quantities are enabling us to ship a higher percentage of our product in full pallet or layer quantities. For Rite Aid, the more efficient logistics processes are leading to faster and more efficient unload and put-away times,” reported Gary Mullin, Pharmavite’s director of sales.
The two companies will continue to look for improvement opportunities across the supply chain, including receiving efficiencies, returns, sales impacts and promotional effectiveness.
“Pharmavite and Rite Aid have achieved phenomenal results using Portfolio Collaborative solutions in conjunction with sound collaborative practices to improve product flow and accuracy while squeezing inventory and logistical costs out of the supply chain,” stated Fred Bauman, JDA’s vice president of collaborative solutions. “With nearly 160 trading partners using JDA to achieve similar results as Pharmavite and Rite Aid, it’s no wonder that our collaborative solutions are the leading choice for helping retailers and their suppliers achieve supply chain efficiencies.”
