Northern Tool Strives to Lower Inventory Carrying Costs with JDA Software
Heavy Duty Equipment Supplier Builds Upon Proven JDA Relationship with New 2Q Deal

Scottsdale, Ariz. - July 8, 2003 - JDA® Software Group, Inc. announced that Northern Tool & Equipment Company selected JDA Portfolio® to help optimize inventory levels across its catalog, 46 retail stores, Web and manufacturing operations. The major supplier of heavy-duty tools and equipment to do-it-yourselfers, contractors and other businesses licensed the network optimization capability of Advanced Replenishment by E3™ in second quarter 2003 to lower inventory carrying and acquisition costs by automatically synchronizing store-level with DC-level inventory decisions.

“With our growth in retail along with sales from our other channels, we needed an enterprise wide view of our corporate inventory levels,” comments Todd Wermerson, Northern Tool’s vice president of information systems. “In addition to saving our merchandising group considerable time each day, JDA’s integrated replenishment solution will enable us to improve stock levels on key items while at the same time lower our overall inventory investment and improve fulfillment rates. Since we manufacture about 20 percent of the products that we sell, we also expect to better forecast our manufacturing demand.”

Proven Results Influence Northern Tool to Further Relationship
Wermerson notes that the Company licensed its replenishment solution from E3 when there were about eight Northern Tool stores. “As we’ve grown our business over the years, we have had a strong partnership with E3 and now with JDA. We want to leverage that experience to realize further benefits for our company,” comments Wermerson.

Peter Charness, JDA’s chief product officer and senior vice president of marketing, states that Northern Tool is the perfect candidate for JDA’s advanced replenishment suite.

“Northern Tool is a complex organization with complex inventory management needs. We’re pleased that our advanced solution will help them to pinpoint their actual replenishment requirements across their business,” states Charness. “Balancing inventory levels across different demand chain distribution points is not a straight forward process. Our network optimization capability takes a balanced view of demand at all levels of the distribution network, while considering the impact of events, promotions and other extraordinary factors to store level requirements for inventory supply. It then properly manages multi level lead times and economic order quantities to optimize inventory at all distribution points across the entire network.”
