JDA Software Announces World’s Largest Co-operative Business and the UK’s Largest Convenience Store Retailer Wins Global Retail Technology Forum Award

Portfolio Collaborative Solutions Enable Co-operative Retail to Dramatically Improve Product Availability and Supply Chain Efficiencies

Scottsdale, Ariz. - April 29, 2003- JDA® Software Group, Inc. announced that its client, the Co-operative Group, the world’s largest co-operative business and the UK’s largest convenience store retailer, received the Global Retail Technology Forum Award for “Best in International Distribution and Logistics.” Co-operative Retail won the award for its collaboration methodology, which has enabled the retailer to dramatically improve product availability and supply chain efficiencies. Co-operative Retail uses the JDA Portfolio® products, Marketplace Replenish™ and Advanced Warehouse Replenishment by E3®, to collaboratively manage inventory with over 20 strategic trading partners such as Nestlé Purina PetCare, Coca Cola and Kellogg’s. The retailer’s Collaborative Planning Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR®) program represents 15 percent of its turnover and encompasses 5,500 SKU’s worth over $200 million in inventory.

“Co-operative Retail has managed to cut supply chain costs dramatically, through a combination of technology and partnerships, because it has embraced the CPFR concept wholeheartedly,” stated Peter Carefoot, logistics development manager of Co-operative Retail “While many others are still only playing at the fringes, we focused on having as many key suppliers on board as quickly as possible so as to realize the major benefits to be gained especially in key areas of promotion planning and inventory reduction. This award further enhances our reputation not just in the UK, but also in Europe as a first class convenience retailer,” added Carefoot.

Co-operative Retail and Trading Partners Achieve ROI with JDA CPFR Solution
Since launching its CPFR program in March 2001 to share a single demand forecast with key trading partners, Co-operative Retail has achieved impressive benefits such as:
· Increased inbound service levels from 97.9 percent to 99 percent;
· Increased outbound service levels from 96.5 percent to 97.9 percent;
· Reduced stockholding within eight depots by $4 million within the first eight months of the CPFR program.

Additionally, Co-operative Retail’s trading partners report improvements in pallet pick rates, a reduction in lead-time and stockholding at Co-operative Retail’s own depots, and increased on-shelf product position in Co-operative Retail’s stores.

“With trust and a willingness to openly share inventory and sales information with its key suppliers, Co-operative Retail envisions true customer service starting high up the supply chain utilizing enabling technology. This process and enabling technology put Co-operative Retail into this year’s winner’s circle,” stated Eric Olson, vice president of products and services for MoonWatch Media Inc., one of the two organizers of the Global Retail Technology Forum.

Commenting on Co-operative Retail’s success, Andrew Blatherwick, JDA’s vice president of European operations, stated, “Co-operative Retail continues to receive well-deserved recognition from the retail industry for its collaborative achievements. We are pleased that JDA’s integrated solution, combined with a well thought out framework and a positive retail/supplier partnership mentality, has enabled Co-operative Retail to remove demand uncertainty while positively impacting product flow and availability throughout its entire supply chain.”

The Co-operative Group was also named winner of the UK-based Institute of Logistics and Transport’s Annual Awards for Excellence 2002 for the Supply-Chain Logistics category.
