Efficient Design: Global data access with HELiOS

Dortmund, (PresseBox) - At this year's Hanover Fair, the ISD Group will present the latest version of its PDM solution HELiOS. While "Smart Design" was the overall motto for the new developments in HiCAD and HELiCON, the focus for the HELiOS enhancements was on "Efficient Design". The new HELiOS version provides the user with functions and tools for an effective working across locations, for component re-use or the creation of interfaces to external systems, thus making design processes even more efficient.

HELiOS 2012 with Application Server

The creation of new products is the result of complex interactions, distributed decisions and a multitude of information. The knowledge gathered during the product lifecycle does often not only originate from various departments of an enterprise, but also from globally distributed locations. In such situations the HELiOS Application Server permanently ensures access to the most current data. For instance, the required data do not need to be loaded onto the local workstation first, but can directly be processed on the Server in real time. This gain in performance is particularly helpful when tight deadlines must be met.

Enhanced Internet Server and more

The HELiOS Internet Server with Web sharing allows HELiOS users to provide their customers and suppliers with access to particular projects, documents and parts. With the help of a common browser they can search through the database directly on the Internet, and display the corresponding product information complete with graphical previews. The HELiOS Internet Server can also be effectively used within closed networks. In this way, instant mobile access to data and documents throughout the entire company, whether in the Production, Store, or Field Service department, is enabled, without any special requirements to technical equipment. Whereas in the past, HELiOS served solely the purpose of information provision, its scope of possibilities has been expanded significantly in Version 2012. The objective of the new developments is to provide a truly universal tool with full access to a running HELiOS Server via the Internet. Examples of the first expansion level of HELiOS are the enhanced user management, refined access right control, additional listing of linked objects, and much more.

Other enhancements include the multiple classification, the updated external CAD interfaces, the enhanced MS Office interfaces (especially for Outlook and Powerpoint), the optimised data exchange between various databases, and much more. Like HiCAD, the new HELiOS version has a new Look & Feel, a new Online Help and customizable Ribbons.
