Advance Registration Open for 23rd International Supercomputing Conference, Europe s Premier HPC Event

(PresseBox) (Dresden, ) The international high performance computing community can take advantage of early registration discounts. Advance registration for the 2008 International Supercomputing Conference (ISC'08) is open now. Advance registration continues through Saturday, May 17, at http://www.isc08.org/registration.

The conference, the largest HPC event in Europe, will be held June 17-20 at the Dresden International Congress Center. The conference program is conducted in English.

ISC'08 offers three days of intensive technical sessions beginning Wednesday, June 18. In addition, three preconference programs will be held on Tuesday, June 17. The Automotive Session "HPC Requirements for the Automotive Industry" will include presentations that demonstrate how HPC is being integrated into various stages of the car manufacturing process. Scientific Sessions will provide an open forum for researchers in academia, industry, and government to present and discuss issues, directions, and results that will shape the future of supercomputing. Awards will be presented to the two best scientific papers.

A new pre-conference feature this year will be a series of presentations called "Efficient Operation of Clusters in Computing Centers." This Tuesday afternoon event will include 10 high-caliber talks by many world-renowned experts from both academia and industry covering all aspects of operating centers using cluster computing architectures.

ISC'08 also offers three days of exhibits from the world's top vendors on high performance computing, networking and storage technologies, and from universities and research labs in Europe, Asia and the U.S.

"Our technical program will address issues that are critically important, not only to the high performance computing community, but to business, government, science and the world at large," said Conference Chairman Prof. Hans Werner Meuer of the University of Mannheim. "If you want to know how the ubiquitous deployment of parallel computing will affect our world or how HPC is accelerating scientific discovery and business R&D, then ISC'08 is where you want to be this June."

The ISC conference, now in its 23rd year, continues to break attendance records, attracting more than 1,200 participants and 80 exhibitors to Dresden in 2007.

Highlights of the technical and pre-conference programs include:
- An opening keynote address by Satoshi Matsuoka, Director of the Tokyo Institute of Technology. His talk is entitled "Everybody Supercomputes in the Next Generation Cyber-Science Infrastructure."
- Justin Rattner, Intel Chief Technology Officer, will talk about the second transformation of the computing world in a keynote address entitled "Multicore/Manycore Platforms Bring Supercomputing to the Masses."
- Friday's keynote will feature John Salmon of D. E. Shaw Research, New York, USA. His presentation,"Toward Millisecond-Scale Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Proteins," will look at high performance computing to simulate molecular dynamics, work that could help scientists understand the causes of many diseases and develop new drugs.

Details of the conference program will be available on the ISC'08 website (http://www.isc08.org).
