Stephen Shurrock, CCO of Telefónica Digital confirmed as keynote speaker at Industry Outlook 2013

(PresseBox) (London, )
Informa Telecoms & Media is delighted to announce that Stephen Shurrock, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Telefónica Digital, will be keynoting at its annual Industry Outlook event in London this October. Shurrock will kick-start this one-day event entitled "The Innovation Challenge", which will explore how the telecom and media industries can drive innovation and deliver profitable growth.

Telefónica Digital is a global business division of Telefónica focused on seizing the innovation opportunities within the digital world and delivering new growth for Telefónica.

Chief Researcher Officer at Informa Telecoms & Media, Mark Newman, comments: "The creation of Telefonica Digital - and its readiness to commit to specific revenue targets - represents one of the most ambitious attempts by a telco to reinvent itself and develop a strong business beyond connectivity. So we are delighted to have Stephen discussing the approach and mindset that telcos need to succeed in the OTT space, outlining Telefónica's OTT strategy, and how it is building a new communications market that merges the best of the telco with the best of the Web ('Over the Telco')."

Stephen Shurrock says, "'For elephants, it's hard to dance' is a phrase we use a lot at Telefónica, meaning that for big organizations it's difficult to change our ways and innovate. And yet, if we don't innovate, we face serious challenges to the future of our business. Take our core business activity - communications. This is an area that's seen little innovation since the introduction of GSM 20 years ago. It took companies from outside our sector, whether that's Apple with Visual Voicemail or the likes of WhatsApp and Viber, to show that innovation could still happen in comms.

"In creating Telefónica Digital, we aim to be at the forefront of innovation in our sector, adopting the speed and agility of over the top players, but also being more open and recognizing that innovation can come from anywhere and that we need to embrace it," explains Shurrock.
