IMPERIAL push boats travel to Paraguay
IMPERIAL Shipping Paraguay has been operating this service since March 2014. A round trip takes about four weeks. Each push boat with a barge convoy (280 metres long, 50 m wide) can transport up to 36,000 tonnes of goods. The two push boats, which are 43.50 metres long and 17.5 metres wide, feature what is so far a unique innovation for these kinds of vessels. The flanking rudders placed in front of the propeller nozzles in the direction of travel, which are only needed for special manoeuvres, can be completely lowered in the stern using hydraulics during normal transport operations. This provides savings in fuel consumption between 5 and 7,5 percent.
