With the 5-in-1 solution fastCCF and fastBook to the finished photo book block

Live-demonstrations on these devices at photokina, Cologne, 23.-28.09.08 - booth C051 in hall 10.2

These two devices manage major worksteps to produce 100 photo books on real photographic paper within one hour. With fastCCF and fastBook Imaging Solutions makes the almost automatic production of photo book in purePhoto quality much easier. fastCCF automatically processes the exposed paper roll to folded photo book pages. Then fastBook delivers the finished book blocks.

fastBook and fastCCF allow vendors of photo products to profit from the rapidly growing market for high value-added photo products and to offer first-class photo books on genuine photographic paper produced with highly efficient devices.

The capacity of fastCCF is matched to the production speeds of the successful widePrint digital printer and the new VSP 25-12 processor. fastCCF cuts the printed photo book pages from the processed paper roll, decurls, creases and folds them and finally presses them flat to assure good gluing. Custom photo covers for photo books can also be cut and creased with fastCCF.

fastCCF is controlled by internal software allowing fast, easy production of covers and book pages. Paper widths between 10.2 and 32 cm (4" to 12.6") and print or page formats of 10.2 x 15 cm to 32 x 64 cm (4" x 6" to 12.6" x 25.2"). Hourly output capacity is 2,000 double photo book pages of 60 cm (24") length per hour. The machine can be easily operated by one person and integrated into the order management or batch management systems in central labs. "fastCCF is a key step in automating the production of photo books in purePhoto quality on genuine photo paper in the central lab and replaces four stand-alone devices," explained Rainer Bauer, CEO of Imaging Solutions. "The purePhoto workflow begins with the receipt and optimi-zation of the image files by the PURUS software. After printing on the fastPrint or widePrint, and processing on the VSP 50 or VSP 25-12 processor, the fastCCF comes into play with the cutting, decurling, creasing, folding and pressing stages."

Further processing with fastBook

The new fastBook from Imaging Solutions automatically produces high-quality book blocks with a lay-flat binding from folded photo book pages received by fastCCF.

With a 1,200 cycle per hour rated performance, this compact stand-alone unit has the capacity to produce 100 book blocks with 20 pages (10 sheets) per hour.

"This is a breakthrough step to bring the purePhoto quality of silver-halide photo paper to the growing market of photo books," said Rainer Bauer, CEO of Imaging Solutions. "As part of our purePhoto digital photofinishing workflow, the new fastBook enables vendors of photo products to offer their customers photo books in unprecedented, true photo quality. Also photo calendars can be glued in this unique quality."

The fastBook automatically produces high-quality book blocks from folded photo book pages. The unit can handle paper widths between 10.2 and 30.5 cm (4" and 12") and page lengths from 12.5 to 45.0 cm (4.9" to 17.7"). It can process RA4 photo paper as well as well as plain paper with a thickness from 160 µm to 210 µm. fastBook is optimized for an efficient production of book blocks with a maximum thickness of 2 cm (0.8").

True double-page panoramas

Unlike standard photo books with disturbing center fold bumps, purePhoto books produced on fastBook always open flat. The lay-flat pages assure excellent reproduction of double-page panorama photo spreads. The lay-flat binding assures that the purePhoto books provide a pleasing unob-structed view of all images including full panorama pictures covering two pages.

Simple operation

fastBook operation is simplicity itself. The operator merely inserts a stack of creased and folded photo book pages into the fastBook, then the machine takes over. The fastBook feeds sheet by sheet, applying glue and pressing two sheets together. Sheets are fed and glued one by one until the stack of pages is formed into a completed book block.

For optimum performance, a specially formulated purePhoto Glue is used to ensure optimum tactile proper-ties, perfect flatness and smooth turnover of the pages in combination with the lay-flat binding. The glue is supplied in pellets for easy, clean and safe handling and requires no curing time, so that the finished book blocks can be immediately moved forward for postprocessing steps such as 3-side cutting and casing-in.

The finished book block is extremely durable, ensuring that the photo book pages do not fall out even after intensive use.

Easy workflow integration

Like all digital photofinishing equipment from Imaging Solutions, the new fastBook is easily integrated into the lab's production workflow. Book pages, which can be effi-ciently produced with the company's widePrint digital printer, include cut marks, order and page codes as well as barcodes and text for easy order tracking within the purePhoto workflow. The new fastBook is available immediately.

purePhoto photo books: presentation at photokina 2008

The photokina 2008, the most important trade show for the photo industry, this year takes place in Cologne from 23 to 28 September. Imaging Solutions can be found in Hall 10.2 at Stand C051. There, the company will be presenting its purePhoto Workflow. According to Rainer Bauer, "At the photokina we will be happy to show visitors the production process, all the way from the photo paper roll to the finished book block on the devices fastCCF and fastBook." Details concerning other system components of the purePhoto workflow, such as
- the high-performance, cost-effective front end system photoClient
- the PURUS software solution for the processing of value added photo products
- the leading-edge image enhancement VIESUS software
- the widePrint high-speed printer
- the paperProcessor VSP 25-12 will also be demonstrated.
