Nicht zuletzt durch virtuelle Erden von Google Earth & Co hat Web-GIS Hochkonjunktur. Gemeint sind damit interaktive Kartenanwendungen, die über einfach zu bedienende Browser auf der Basis von Internet-Technologien zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Die Fachhochschule Osnabrück beteiligt sich zum vierten Mal mit einer Vortragsveranstaltung am Internationalen GIS-DAY, um einem breiten Publikum zu zeigen, was hinter Geografischen Informationssystemen (GIS) steckt.

Für Kommunen wird der Umgang mit Geoinformationen im Web-GIS zunehmend unverzichtbar. Aktuellen und zukunftsweisenden Möglichkeiten des Inter- und Intranets der Stadt Osnabrück präsentiert Sven Düyffcke, Fachbereich Umwelt der Stadt.
