Knochen heilen mit einem künstlichen Gel-Schwamm

Nicht immer wächst fehlendes Knochenmaterial von selbst nach. Forscher des Teltower Instituts für Biomaterialforschung haben jetzt Forschungsergebnisse in der Fachzeitschrift Advanced Materials vorgestellt, welche zeigen, dass mit Hilfe einer vorübergehend eingesetzten schwammähnlichen Struktur ein kritischer Knochendefekt einer Ratte in wenigen Wochen ausheilt.

Das durch Aufschäumen aus Gelatine hergestellte Material ist offenporig, so dass Körperzellen, aber auch Sauerstoff und Nährstoffe leicht in die rund 0,2 mm großen Zwischenräume einwandern können. Der Ausgangsstoff Gelatine - also tierisches Eiweiß - sorgt dafür, dass die ersten knochenbildenden Zellen direkt an Molekülen dieses "ArcGel" (architectured hydrogel) anwachsen können. So entwickelt sich schnell die fehlende Knochensubstanz.
