Judel-Vrolijk Nauta Baltic (JVNB115') heads out on sea trials
Launched at Baltic Yachts` waterside facility in Jakobstad in August this year, the high-performance custom built yacht set sail for the first time on September 9, 2015, and will now undergo sea trials and final fit-out prior to delivery to her owner in October this year.
Gurit was pleased to have been involved in this project from the very early stages of the design, working closely with Baltic Yachts and Nauta Design to meet the owner`s brief for an elegant and comfortable family cruising yacht with outstanding and competitive racing performance.
The powerful 88-ton displacement boat was designed to the structural requirements of Germanischer Lloyd. “We have met the challenge of accommodating important aesthetic and ergonomic details without compromising structural weight through the use of advanced Finite Element Analysis techniques and by calling upon the experience of Gurit’s most senior engineers,” explains Marion Meunier, project manager in the Gurit Engineered Structures team.
The significant fold-out transom, the wide saloon windows and the streamlined bowsprit, which includes grand-prix racing features, were some of the design details that Gurit engineers are proud to have developed in collaboration with the teams at Baltic Yachts and Nauta Design.
Besides structural engineering support, Gurit also contributed to this successful project by supplying advanced composite materials, including ST70 Sprint™ and SE70 high strength carbon/epoxy prepreg with Gurit® Corecell™ M foam used as a structural sandwich core for the hull and most bulkheads.
Commenting on this achievement, Kenneth Nyfelt, Sales Director of Baltic Yachts, said: “Good team work has been essential in this project. We have appreciated the flexible and open-minded approach by everyone involved. It is important to be surrounded by a good team that understands the fundamentals of custom yacht building, i.e. finding simple and light solutions that take up little space.”
Gurit looks forward to following the progress of the Judel-Vrolijk Nauta Baltic 115’ as she is due to complete her sea trials and then take part in the RORC Caribbean 600 Race this coming winter.
