Vibrations occur above all in production plants and can generate many different types of horizontal and vertical oscillations in a large variety of frequency ranges caused by the drives of the integrated machines. The metering result is influenced decisively by the vibration severity measured in the form of acceleration of the vibrations. The question being looked at is: "How well do the weigh feeders compensate defined intensities of vibration?" Research carried out by the University of Applied Sciences Constance showed that an acceleration of vibration of up to 0.5 m/s² did not affect the metering accuracy of the Gericke hybrid weighing technology. It emerged that, in addition to electronic damping, especially mechanical damping plays an important role when improving on metering accuracy. Tests made it clear that the reduction of transference of vibrations to the system (as a whole) was not achievable by using heavy weights nor were rubber feet suitable as vibration dampers for significant reduction of the effects of the vibrations. On the contrary, results showed that additional vibrating of the system can occur and then lead to metering inaccuracy. Sand cushions the vibrations perfectly. It is however not practicable for design and hygiene reasons.

The University of Applied Sciences Constance appraised the Gericke Hybrid Lossin-Weight Feeder which is equipped with a mechanical vibration damper system and tare compensation as being a system that compensates adverse effects caused by vibrations coming from the plant or the volumetric feeding system itself. Tare compensation permits high feed rate and high metering accuracy even when processing very light and cohesive products like e.g. TiO?, Ca?CO?, kaolin and various salts as only the bulk material in the hopper and in the feeder is weighed and not the weight of the feeder itself.

A number of helix and screw designs are available in order to be in a position to offer the best possible solution for various bulk materials. The hybrid weigh feeders can optionally be equipped with a vertical agitator in order to prepare bulk materials with very poor flowing properties for the metering process. Combined with the intelligent Gericke controller, Easydos Pro, the feeder can meet the high demands made on short term accuracy. User programmes and configuration can be downloaded off the computer and the settings and data can be downloaded by means of a memory stick.
