Colorado partners with MIDS, a Gemalto company, to provide a complete solution for secure polycarbonate identity credentialsAmsterdam, )
Today, Colorado is leveraging MIDS' comprehensive issuance solution that includes document scanning and authentication plus photo, signature, as well as fingerprint capture and verification. MIDS is also providing Colorado with its robust central issuance and personalization solution of highly secure polycarbonate driver licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
MIDS experts worked with the State of Colorado and its nearly 60 state and county offices to facilitate the transition with operational and educational trainings for DMV operators and local law enforcement.
For Colorado, it was important to design this new credential with security features that are easy to authenticate without the need for special equipment. Colorado decided to transition to a polycarbonate based credential for its advanced security features.
As driver license identity fraud is a continuing concern, Colorado is bringing its citizens one of the industry's most secure credentials: polycarbonate technology allows the images and the text to be laser engraved into the card body. With Sealys Window Lock, the card also contains a secondary card holder portrait in a see-through window, making it virtually impossible to counterfeit or compromise.
"MIDS' technology helped improve our systematic procedures making the workflow process easier for our operators," said David Lindsay, Driver's License Operations Director at the Colorado DMV. "The protection of our citizens' identities is our utmost concern and with MIDS we have taken great strides in improving the security of the credentials we issue."
"Working with Colorado DMV, we held a Collaborative Design Forum to recreate the famous Rocky Mountains picture card background using the most sophisticated document security features for their new polycarbonate credential," said Steve Steigmeyer, Vice-President of MIDS. "We believe that the benefit in using polycarbonate for Colorado's credentials is twofold: a more secure form of identity in addition to an extended duration of the credential."
