Freescale to showcase breadth of wireless technologies at Mobile World Congress

Highlights include industry’s first cellular end-to-end LTE solution, WiMAX technologies and single core modem architecture

(PresseBox) (Austin, Texas, ) At this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Freescale Semiconductor once again will demonstrate its leadership in emerging cellular technology as well as its ongoing commitment to enhancing existing technology.

At Booth 8B91 in Hall 8 Freescale will showcase its Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology with the industry’s first cellular handset end-to-end LTE solution and its leadership in wireless technology and infrastructure. Other highlights include demonstrations of Freescale’s single core modem architecture and compelling advanced WiMAX technologies.

Selected demonstrations

Long Term Evolution (LTE) User Experience
The demonstration highlights Freescale’s LTE end-to-end consumer solutions by showcasing impressive data rates in the uplink and downlink of streaming high-definition video. In particular, the demonstration includes video clip transmission and reception, data throughput statistics and receive constellation. On the networking side, Freescale will demonstrate a modular LTE/WiMAX base station platform with transport, control and baseband capabilities. This MIMO-capable platform offers high performance programmable processing delivered by PowerQUICC™ communications processors and StarCore® DSPs.

MXC Platform Supporting Multiple Operating Systems
Freescale will demonstrate its Mobile eXtreme Convergence platforms supporting all major open operating systems. The demonstration showcases the simplified development environment available to open system developers as well as the advantages of reduced overall board complexity, cost and power consumption. In particular, the demonstration highlights proprietary Freescale blocks designed to provide security services to applications and a secure, trusted computing base.

Freescale is contributing to the rapid build-out of WiMAX infrastructure and CPE technology for both fixed (16d) and mobile (16e) applications. At Mobile World Congress, Freescale will show off many of its WiMAX CPE solutions, which are currently deployed by its worldwide customer base. Freescale-powered WiMAX technology on display at the show includes VoIP, Triple Play, encryption/QOS support, IP VPN, storage, remote configuration and services for carriers supporting Internet broadband access.

i.MX family
Freescale will show off the impressive flexibility and performance of its i.MX multimedia processor family, including:
- 3-D graphics technology designed to help deliver lifelike mapping to mobile handheld devices
- Advanced m-commerce applications designed to help make mobile banking transactions more secure
- Mobile Web browsing technology designed to help deliver a desktop Web surfing-like experience in palm of your hand
- Comprehensive reference designs for the booming navigation and IP surveillance camera markets

Qosmos software
Freescale will demonstrate its multi-core processors running Qosmos Qoala software – a deep packet inspection and information extraction solution that offers telecom operators real time visibility on network and application usage that boosts network performance and security, and enables the creation of a large array of new revenue-generating services.

MC34671 lithium-ion battery charger IC family
Freescale's Li-ion battery charger ICs provide extremely accurate charging current and output voltages to optimize battery performance and life. They can be customized to create hundreds of configurations that address a wide range of portable and ultra-mobile device needs.
