Freescale recognized for innovation at Telematics Update 2007

Industry award recognizes powerful automotive telematics processor and Freescale’s industry leadership

(PresseBox) (München, ) Freescale Semiconductor, the leading supplier of semiconductors to the automotive industry, received a prestigious international award at the 7th annual Telematics Update Detroit Conference and Exhibition, May 22-23, 2007.

Freescale's MPC5200 processor and its comprehensive telematics development environment won the Best Telematics Component Award for its exceptional capabilities in enabling emerging vehicle telematics systems.

The annual Telematics Update Awards program recognizes and honors companies that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the telematics industry. Chosen by an independent panel of automotive and wireless industry judges, the winners were selected from hundreds of nominations and announced at the Telematics Update Awards ceremony on May 22.

"This Telematics Update award is a noteworthy endorsement of Freescale's leadership and innovation in the telematics market," said Mike McCourt, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Microcontroller Division. "This honor underscores the popularity of the MPC5200 processor and mobileGT® platform with our telematics customers, and we're continuing to enhance our platform with next-generation multi-core solutions."

The high-performance MPC5200 processor built on Power Architecture™ technology is the most widely used processing solution for in-vehicle telematics systems. The MPC5200, targeted specifically for telematics systems, is designed to deliver 760 million instructions per second (MIPS) of processing power.

This award reflects Freescale's strong position in the telematics industry, as well as the company's commitment to the future of the market," said Phil Magney, principal analyst for Telematics Research Group and a Telematics Update award judge. "Freescale's mobileGT platform lends itself well to telematics systems because of its scalability for all types of implementations, from low-cost platforms to full-featured infotainment."

About the mobileGT™ platform Freescale's mobileGT platform refers to a family of telematics processors and reference designs supported by an alliance of key vendors in the automotive telematics industry. Pooling the talents of leading RTOS vendors, software module IP providers and system integrators, the mobileGT alliance helps to ensure that developers will have optimized, off-the-shelf solutions when they need them. Freescale's mobileGT alliance members support and drive adoption of powerful Freescale development platforms that shorten development cycles and accelerate time to market for new products and features.
