Freescale ICs featured in Acer's new DisplayPlus monitor
Freescale to demo the Acer smart monitor at CES
The DisplayPlus D241H is a 24inch smart monitor coming soon from Acer that includes Freescale's highperformance, featurerich i.MX515 applications processor to enable widget applications and multimedia playback. The monitor also incorporates Freescale's MC13892 power management IC and SGTL5000 audio codec.
"The DisplayPlus D241H is much more than just a PC monitor. It's a modernday bulletin board that serves the whole family's simple, digital life. The D241H allows users to view information and conduct select online activities instantly without having to turn on the PC," said Arthur Pai, associate vice president, Digital Display Business Unit, Acer Inc. "By embedding the Freescale i.MX515 processor into our monitor design, we will offer users an affordable solution that allows instant information sharing to enhance family interaction and activities. This includes receiving email/SMS, checking realtime news and weather, editing your online calendar, using the media player and more."
Acer plans to formally introduce the smart monitor during the first quarter of 2010. The offering incorporates the CPU directly into the monitor, saving valuable desk space compared to a traditional PC and monitor configuration.
"Acer's newest smart monitor is an innovative product that showcases the range and depth of Freescale's product portfolio for consumer markets," said Bernd Lienhard, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Multimedia Applications Division. "Freescale is pleased to help worldclass companies like Acer deliver compelling new offerings that advance the state of consumer electronics."

About the i.MX515 processor
The i.MX515 has seven separate processing units: an ARM Cortex(TM) -A8 core, a vector floating point unit, a 2D graphics accelerator, a 3D graphics accelerator, an image processing unit, an ARM NEON(TM) SIMD media accelerator and a multistandard 720p hardware video codec. Advanced power management features include a dedicated, hardwarebased video acceleration block that allows for extended battery life and eliminates the need for fans or heat sinks. The i.MX515 hardware video codec is designed to accelerate computeintensive motion video and provide highdefinition video decode of 720p movies at up to 30 frames per second.

Weiterlesen
