Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces New Thermo Scientific Niton XRF GOLDD Analyzers for Metal Alloy Verification in Manufacturing Quality Assurance
Upgrades to GOLDD Technology Deliver Positive Material Identification with Point-and-Shoot Simplicity
(PresseBox) (Billerica, Mass., )Thermo Scientific geometrically optimized large area drift detector (GOLDD) technology delivers faster measurement times and lower detection limits - as much as 10times faster than conventional Si-PIN detectors and up to threetimes more precise than conventional smaller silicon drift detectors (SDD). This innovative technology also allows light element analysis of magnesium (Mg), aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) without helium purge or vacuum assist. When joined with advanced Thermo Scientific Niton analyzer proprietary electronics, new levels of analytical capabilities are realized.
"With the launch of the Niton XL2 GOLDD and enhanced Niton XL3t GOLDD+, we now offer a range of products to the aerospace, metal fabrication, foundry and related industries, which are engineered from the ground up to help eliminate any guesswork in verifying metal alloys for manufacturing quality assurance," said Bob Wopperer, director of marketing and business development for Thermo Scientific Niton Analyzers.
Wopperer continued, "We know that the potential for material mixups is very real and that the need for traceability is a priority. Our nondestructive analyzers provide a worryfree solution. They take control of material verification, recovery of lost traceability, isolation of finish welds to validate filler material and dilution rates, and confirmation of finished products - all without damaging samples in any way. This means users can save both time and additional testing expense."
GOLDD Technology
Whether users choose the performanceleading Niton XL2 GOLDD or the Niton XL3t GOLDD+, the ultimate choice in features plus performance, they will benefit from fast, accurate elemental analysis and positive material identification to ensure manufacturing quality assurance and quality control.
- Niton XL2 GOLDD analyzers have a 45kV, 100 ?A xray tube and are lightweight yet ruggedly built to withstand severe environments. Ergonomically designed and featuring daylight readable icons, the Niton XL2 GOLDD incorporates customizable menus for ease of use, multilanguage options and a standard analytical range of more than 30 elements from magnesium to uranium. It is the ideal instrument to get rapid results for confident decisionmaking.
- Niton XL3t GOLDD+ analyzers with their 50kV, 200 ?A xray tubes and tilting, color, touchscreen display deliver labquality analysis on almost any alloy grade and provide the highest performance and sensitivity for the most demanding applications. For ultralow Mg analysis, there is a helium purge option. Further, the Niton XL3t GOLDD+ allows users to identify freemachining stainless steels based on sulfur content. Additionally, the integrated Thermo Scientific CamShot CCD camera comes standard for accurate sample positioning and image capture, while the optional Thermo Scientific WeldSpot smallspot feature isolates welds.
A Family of Thermo Scientific Niton XRF Analyzers
Handheld, awardwinning Niton XL2 Series and Niton XL3 Series XRF analyzers are purposebuilt for taking measurements anywhere, anytime, with accurate results available in seconds, saving significant expense in comparison to traditional laboratory testing. These easytouse, nondestructive instruments provide integrated storage of all test results, which are completely tamperproof. Multiple communication options are incorporated, including Bluetooth* wireless and USB communications.
They also come standard with Thermo Scientific Niton Data Transfer (NDT©) software, a suite of data management utilities that allows users to set operator permissions, print certificates of analysis to document results, export data into standard formats (*.csv or MS Excel), or operate the analyzer remotely from a PC. The NDT file format preserves and protects the original data from each sample analysis, ensuring that this data is not unintentionally or intentionally compromised.
Thermo Fisher customers are served through corporate resources and a dedicated network of more than 70 distributors and 30 factorytrained service centers around the world to provide the most effective customer service possible.
