Thermo Fisher Scientific Demonstrates Latest Handheld XRF Alloy Analyzers at MS&T'11

Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 GOLDD and Niton XL3t GOLDD+ Analyzers Deliver Rapid, Reliable Metal Alloy Verification for Manufacturing Quality Assurance

The instruments of choice in nondestructive elemental analysis solutions for metal alloy verification, Thermo Scientific Niton XRF analyzers provide superior accuracy in grade identification and alloy chemistry in seconds. Thermo Scientific geometrically optimized large area drift detector (GOLDD(TM) ) technology delivers faster measurement times and lower detection limits - as much as 10-times faster than conventional Si-PIN detectors and up to three-times more precise than conventional smaller silicon drift detectors (SDD). This innovative technology also allows analysis of light elements such as magnesium (Mg), aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) without helium purge or vacuum assist. When joined with advanced Thermo Scientific Niton analyzer proprietary electronics, new levels of analytical capabilities are realized.

- Niton XL2 GOLDD analyzers have a 45kV, 100 ?A x-ray tube and are lightweight yet ruggedly built to withstand severe environments. Ergonomically designed and featuring daylight readable icons, the Niton XL2 GOLDD incorporates customizable menus for ease of use, multi-language options and a standard analytical range of more than 30 elements from magnesium to uranium. It is the ideal instrument to get rapid results for confident decision-making.

- Niton XL3t GOLDD+ analyzers with their 50kV, 200 ?A x-ray tubes and tilting, color, touch-screen display deliver lab-quality analysis on almost any alloy grade and provide the highest performance and sensitivity for the most demanding applications. For ultra-low Mg analysis, there is a helium purge option. Further, the Niton XL3t GOLDD+ allows users to identify free-machining stainless steels based on sulfur content. Additionally, the integrated Thermo Scientific CamShot CCD camera comes standard for accurate sample positioning and image capture, while the optional Thermo Scientific WeldSpot small-spot feature isolates welds.

A Family of Handheld Thermo Scientific Niton XRF Analyzers

Handheld, award-winning Niton XL2 Series and Niton XL3t Series XRF analyzers are engineered for taking measurements anywhere, anytime, with accurate results available in seconds, saving significant expense compared to traditional laboratory testing. These easy-to-use, nondestructive instruments provide integrated storage of all test results, which are completely tamperproof. The NDT file format preserves and protects the original data from each sample analysis, ensuring that data is not unintentionally or intentionally compromised.
