Harvard Library Unifies Discovery of Its Resources with Ex Libris Primo

A comprehensive search experience powered by Primo will replace the multiple customized services currently offered to users

Chicago, IL, (PresseBox) - Ex Libris® Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that the Harvard Library has decided to offer the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery system as a single search interface for Harvard University's vast local and electronic collections. The Library is adding Primo to a suite of Ex Libris solutions consisting of the Aleph® integrated library system, Primo Central Index of scholarly resources, SFX OpenURL link resolver, MetaLib gateway and metasearch solution, and bX article recommender.

Among the factors that led to the selection of Primo were its seamless integration with the Library's Aleph system, enabling users to access fulfillment services such as loans and hold requests directly from the Primo interface; the capabilities that Primo offers for harvesting and normalizing complex metadata; and the ongoing commitment of Ex Libris to include open-access collections, institutional repositories, and research data in the Primo Central Index.

"The Harvard Library is taking a significant step forward in making its collections even more accessible to Harvard's scholars. Implementing this platform will provide Harvard's faculty and students another powerful tool to support their research," said Sarah Thomas, vice president for the Harvard Library and Roy E. Larsen Librarian of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Matti Shem Tov, president and CEO of Ex Libris, stated: "We are proud to be the clear choice of the Harvard Library for its discovery service. Having worked closely with the Library for many years, we hold in high regard their vision of libraries as the center of scholarship, and we are keen to begin this next phase in our continuing strong partnership."
