Ex Libris Alma and Primo Selected by the Natural History Museum

Future-proof technology and tight integration with user services were key to the museum's decision

London, (PresseBox) - Ex Libris Group, a world leader in the provision of library automation solutions, is pleased to announce that London's Natural History Museum has selected Ex Libris Alma for next-generation resource management services and Ex Libris Primo® for unified resource discovery and delivery. These tightly integrated solutions will support the museum's strategic goal of providing a pioneering digital library of the future.

The Natural History Museum houses a public library that is used by the museum's own scientists, visiting researchers, and members of the public. Given the large number of digital resources that it holds, a number which is constantly growing due to their digitization project, the library sought a solution that would enable staff to manage all resource types through unified processes and workflows. An additional requirement was that users be able to access all of the library's collections through a single search interface, a feature that would enable users to find relevant resources rapidly. The museum's detailed market analysis showed that Alma and Primo, unifying resource management and discovery in a seamless experience for staff and users, would best meet the library's requirements.

"As a truly next-generation resource management solution, Alma will enable the Natural History Museum to achieve its aim of managing all resource types within one system, thereby greatly streamlining their processes. The savings that will result from this increased efficiency, as well as the use of Alma Analytics for decision making, will free up staff to focus more on users and innovative projects within the library," commented Christoph Frech, regional sales director. "Primo's modern, practical user interface and personalized ranking of results will help diverse library communities carry out their research. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with this important institution and are looking forward to seeing Alma and Primo bring benefits to the library and its users."
