Styling and functionality are the defining parameters for today's illumination concepts and lighting elements. Amid efforts to reduce global warming, one further design aspect has increasingly been appearing in the spotlight: energy efficiency.
At this year's Light+Buildung in Frankfurt, PLEXIGLAS® specialists from Evonik are showcasing a whole range of amazing solutions that demonstrate how using the right material for light applications helps cut back energy consumption, and thus not merely reduce costs by downscaling energy demands, but also make a measurable contribution towards counteracting climate change.
PLEXIGLAS truLED® is one example of such a material. Developed specifically for use in combination with advanced LED technology, this material can be adapted to harmonize perfectly with the given color coordinates produced by an LED. It offers a high degree of translucence coupled with excellent light diffusion. These exceptional light2 transmission properties mean the desired degree of luminosity can be achieved using significantly fewer light sources (LEDs) than are required in connection with conventional acrylic glass. In fact, back2lighting elements made of PLEXIGLAS truLED® require up to 40 percent fewer LEDs than acrylic2glass elements to produce the same level of illumination. And that means energy expenditures are cut back by up to 40 percent, reducing both costs and CO2 emissions.
Another product option that allows light yield to be maximized while keeping energy expenditures comparatively low is PLEXIGLAS® EndLighten. Ultra2slim2design PLEXIGLAS® EndLighten is a light2 diffusing, transparent acrylic glass (PMMA) that boasts special illumination properties.
Ultra2thin illuminated displays made with edge2lit sheets of PLEXIGLAS®EndLighten distribute evenly the light emitted into them at the edges across the entire surface. The excellent diffusion quality of this product makes it possible to shine light evenly using only a small number of light sources. This solution, too, helps improve energy efficiency, thereby also helping to protect our climate.
