This two days' seminar aim was to inform and educate people in the plastics food packaging industry on what they need to know about current legislation, its implementation and what they should anticipate for the future at the national as well as European level. The seminar was chaired by Mr Joachim Eckstein, the EuPC Vice-President. Presenters came from across industry and authorities - representing the EU Commission, Member States, suppliers, converters, and recyclers.

The event was attended by almost 90 representatives from all over the plastics food packaging value chain including the sponsor of the event - Clariant.

The participants were presented on the first day with the insights on the Implementation and Control of Food Contact Regulation in Member States; presentations were given by authorities from Public Health, Food Administration and Consumer Affairs Departments, coming from Belgium, France, Netherlands and Spain.

The second day was focused on the practical approach to the regulatory compliance and was followed by a compelling and heated Q&A session where 25 questions were discussed in depth by the panel of experts: Dr Annette Schäfer (from the European Commission, DG Health & Consumers - SANCO), Dario Dainelli (Director Regulatory Affairs Europe/Asia-Pacific, Food & Beverage BU), Dr Calude Dequatre (Toxicology and Regulations Coordinator, Ineos).

With the success of this year's conference and with the fast pace of change in regulations, EuPC is looking forward to organizing next year a third conference on food contact and keeping the interested parties updated with the latest advancements within the Food Contact legislation.

EuPC is the EU-level Trade Association, based in Brussels, representing European Plastics Converters. Plastics converters (sometimes called "Processors") are the heart of the plastics industry.
