The top honour awarded by the WMO Executive Council recognises Dr Mohr's many years of service in international satellite meteorology. Dr Mohr began his distinguished career working as a meteorologist and scientist at the Deutscher Wetter Dienst (DWD), the German weather service, where he later headed various departments and, between 1992 and 1995, was President.
As Director-General of EUMETSAT between 1995 and 2004, Dr Mohr guided the organisation through its transition to a fully operational, independent meteorological satellite organisation.
