Ericsson hat - weltweit erstmalig - zusammen mit der Renesas Mobile Corporation, einem Anbieter von Plattformen für mobile Endgeräte, LTE-Übertragungen nach Category 4 der 3GPP-Spezifizierung gezeigt. Damit können entsprechende Smartphones und anderen LTE-taugliche Endgeräte - wie etwa Tablet-PCs oder Router - Downlinkgeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 150 Mbit/s nutzen. Die Markteinführung geeigneter Endgeräte wird für Ende 2012 erwartet.

Die Übertragungsklasse stellt den nächsten Schritt in der Weiterentwicklung des LTE-Standards dar.
