E.ON outsources part of its IT services
Hewlett-Packard and T-Systems are E.ON's future partners
The outsourcing is an integral part of the E.ON Group-wide performance-enhancement program PerformtoWin. "We are strengthening E.ON's competitiveness in this increasingly difficult environment and aim to take an even more strategic approach to the core business in the future," says Dr. Marcus Schenck, Member of the E.ON Board of Management. The new structure will enable a cost-efficient, flexible and quick IT response to support E.ON's global business activities.
Collaboration with experienced, professional partners with proven technical IT infrastructure expertise also ensures that E.ON will be able to respond even better to changes in the framework conditions of the energy industry, and to enter new markets in the future. "We want to streamline our IT and make it more efficient in order to maintain our leading role in the ever-more dynamic energy market," says Edgar Aschenbrenner, Chairman of the Management Board of E.ON IT, the E.ON Group's internal IT company.
The choice of the outsourcing partners was made under the observance of strict criteria: the cost effectiveness as well as a solution-oriented approach and skills of the partners were key factors. In addition, their human resources performance and policy, and their experience in the integration of employees were a priority. Further decisive criteria were the compliance with legal regulations as well as the strategic orientation of HP and T-Systems.
Those responsible for the decision also especially valued the development prospects for the employees that are transferring to the partners. Innovation is also important to E.ON and E.ON expects to have access to the latest technology through the partnerships.
"We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to provide our services in the field of information and communication technology for another international group. With E.ON as our partner, this is the first time we have succeeded in winning a large-scale order from the energy industry in Europe," says Reinhard Clemens, Member of the Board of Management at Deutsche Telekom AG and CEO of T-Systems. "We are really looking forward to working with the new colleagues from E.ON IT."
Jan Zadak, who is responsible for the European business of Hewlett-Packard, describes the future collaboration with E.ON as follows: "HP will support E.ON in delivering excellent services to its customers with HP's proven delivery processes, strong technology portfolio and our experience in outsourced services."
The transfer of altogether around 1,400 IT employees throughout Europe from E.ON to the new partners is planned to be implemented in spring 2011. The transfer will take place in close coordination and collaboration with the co-determination bodies. The outsourcing contract warrants adherence to the country-specific agreements in force at the time of the transfer and compliance with national and cultural framework conditions. On concluding the contract, the employee's rights remain safeguarded and their professional development is secured for the term of the contracts.
In future, HP will look after all the Data Centers and will be responsible for end-user computing. TSystems will be responsible for the Network and Telecommunications Services. IT systems and tasks relevant to security are not part of the outsourcing and will continue to be managed by E.ON.
The overall steering and responsibility of the information technology for E.ON remains the task of the Group's own IT company, E.ON IT, which collaborates closely with the E.ON specialist departments and the outsourcing partners.
