Restriction of Russian gas deliveries to Ukraine - E.ON Ruhrgas has taken precautions

Well positioned with highly diversified gas supply portfolio and operational storage facilities

Essen, (PresseBox) - E.ON Ruhrgas has taken precautions in case less gas reaches Germany because of the started restriction of Russian gas deliveries to Ukraine, as announced by the Russian gas producer Gazprom following the dispute between the two countries. The company receives gas from several sources. Apart from Russia with a share of 26 %, E.ON Ruhrgas obtains gas above all from Norway, the Netherlands and Germany. With this broad supply portfolio and its 12 operational gas storage facilities, E.ON Ruhrgas is in a position to ensure the supply of gas to its customers.

"We are well prepared. Even if the dispute escalates further, there will be no cuts for residential and commercial customers. At present, large customers are not affected either. Not till then, if the supply restrictions prove to be serious and long-lasting and the winter turns out to be particularly cold, our means of offsetting the shortfalls will come up against limits," said Dr. Bernhard Reutersberg, CEO of E.ON Ruhrgas.

Gazprom and Ukraine have not yet managed to settle their conflict over Russian gas deliveries to Ukraine. Gazprom has therefore reduced its deliveries to Ukraine. The volumes that are intended for Germany and Europe and pass through Ukraine are being made available by Russia without any changes. Most of the Russian gas destined for western Europe crosses Ukraine. The remaining volumes, which are not affected by the dispute, pass through Belarus and Poland.

"Regardless the current situation E.ON Ruhrgas can look back on 35 years of gas deliveries from Russia and at the same time on extensive cooperation between Gazprom and E.ON Ruhrgas. Reliability, commitment and partnership are and will remain the success factors of our cooperation with Gazprom", Mr. Reutersberg stressed.

The current situation shows the great importance of Nord Stream for the energy industry: This pipeline through the Baltic can ensure the supply of large gas volumes to the European Union on a long-term basis. In addition, E.ON Ruhrgas is expanding its activities in the exploration & production and LNG sectors so that it can place its supply sources on an even broader base.
