European gas-importing companies with a constructive proposal for gas dispute

(PresseBox) (Essen, ) Following meetings with Gazprom and the meeting held in Berlin on January 16th, 2009, between ENI, E.ON Ruhrgas, GDF SUEZ and the Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir V. Putin, the major European gas companies have elaborated and sent today together with OMV/EconGas to Gazprom a constructive proposal for a temporary solution allowing an immediate resumption of Russian gas flow to Europe through Ukraine.

The proposed agreement to Gazprom also matches all the necessary gas requirements as stated by Naftogaz of Ukraine for a short period of time enabling Gazprom and Naftogaz to reach their bilateral agreements.

The major European gas companies have been working all together in order to allow an immediate solution to the gas crisis. They are ready to finalize with Gazprom their proposal in the course of this week-end in order to come to a definitive agreement.

By working out this solution the European gas-importing companies showed their commitment and sense of responsibility for the supply of their customers with natural gas.
