EnviTec Biogas builds two new biogas plants in the Czech Republic

23 biogas plants commissioned in the Czech Republic since market entry

Lohne, (PresseBox) - Green energy and German know-how for the Czech Republic's biogas plant market: Since its entry into the market in 2006, EnviTec Biogas AG, based in Lohne (Germany), has through its subsdiary EnviTec Biogas Central Europe s.r.o. implemented 23 biogas plants with a total electrical output of 16.5 MW. The most recent additions - two biogas plants with 999 kW each - were successfully put into operation in December. "With the implementation of both our plants in Velké Meziříčí and Velká Bíteš, we are continuing our technological and economical commitment in the Eastern European market," says Roel Slotman, in-charge of sales at the board of management at EnviTec Biogas.

The client of the successfully completed construction project in Velké Meziříčí with a population of 12,000 residents is ENERGOKLASTR CTT Vysočina, o.p.s. Renewable resources such as corn silage, cattle slurry, manure bedding and sugar beet pulp that are bought from the local farmers, primarily serve as input materials for the operator of the new biogas plant. In future, the energy generated by the 999 kW plant will be used for heating a nearby primary school, a company and an old age home.

The operators of the second new EnviTec plant in Velká Bíteš, near Brno, plan to supply green energy for the urban heating system. BC Energy s.r.o, the operator of the plant, uses milk cow slurry and manure bedding from a recently acquired 850 hectare large-scale agricultural enterprise as input.

"The potential of the Czech Republic for biogas continues to be large," says Roel Slotman. Since 2005, the state has been supporting green energy with the construction of biogas plants. "However, the defined climate objectives for 2013 were attained and the government thus reduced their subsidies for renewable energy to zero," regrets Slotman. In their own subsidiary in Velké Meziříčí, EnviTec employees are currently providing more and more advice to their Czech customers in the fields of service, maintenance and repowering of the existing plants.

"These are also the topics on which we will be focusing at the Biomasa trade fair that will take place from 30 March to 3 April in Brno, the second-largest city of the Czech Republic," says Slotman.

EnviTec Biogas AG has established EnviTec Biogas Central Europe s.r.o. in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2006. The subsidiary at the industrial zone of Velké Meziříčí is conveniently located close to the D1 highway, which connects the two big cities of Prague and Brno.

There are currently about 360 plants in the Czech Republic with a rated electrical output of 258 MW. So far in the Czech Republic, biogas is mainly used for electricity generation. The upgrading to biomethane and supply to the natural gas grid continues to be a future trend because there are no supply regulations.
