ENTSO-E says the Commission's Internal Energy Market (IEM) Communication gives much needed direction towards realising the IEM's full potential

(PresseBox) (Brussels, ) ENTSO-E agrees that the full and timely implementation of IEM is a necessary foundation for tackling the challenges of the rapid generation mix changes. "Without fast progress towards completion of the IEM, the TSOs' tasks of keeping the lights on and facilitating the electricity market just get harder", says ENTSO-E President Daniel Dobbeni. "Better functioning markets and clearer and more harmonized rules are necessary to accommodate those rapid changes without security of supply risks'' he says.

The IEM is a key instrument in delivering other European energy policy goals and the Commission's emphasis on network codes for completing the IEM is expected. However, after their extensive consultation there is a need to ensure rapid adoption. The nine priority ENTSO-E network codes together provide market based frameworks enabling the integration of growing amounts of renewable and low-carbon energy into the power system.

An efficient and effective Energy Infrastructure Package will complete this framework by creating streamlined permitting procedures for the large investments in transmission infrastructure enabling the timely delivery of assets which are necessary to ensure our continued security of supply.

ENTSO-E encourages the Commission to look carefully at the interactions of the various generation capacity investment incentives when pursuing the security of supply consultation and the guidance on renewable energy support schemes.
