ENTSO-E Publishes Bidding Zone Review Technical Report

(PresseBox) (Brussels, ) ENTSO-E has published the Bidding Zone Review Technical Report. This report is the first step in an overall review of the current configuration of European bidding zones. The requirement for this review was established in the network code on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management (NC CACM).

The report contains data from CWE (Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands), Denmark-West, CEE (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia), Switzerland and Italy. It highlights current congestions, power flows not resulting from capacity allocation, congestion incomes and firmness costs. The report will be complemented by a market report, which ACER is currently drafting.

The present European market contains several bidding zones that historically, in many cases, correspond to respective Member States.

In order to ensure the successful completion of the IEM it is important to analyse the appropriateness and robustness of the current bidding zone structure. This report is a first step in the review process to assess whether the existing bidding zones are appropriate for current and future market requirements.
