ENTSO-E Monitoring Report shows TSO R&D activities on track
The findings of this year's report clearly demonstrate that ENTSO-E is well advanced in meeting its R&D Roadmap targets and technical objectives. Comparisons with the Monitoring Report 2012 provide many examples where significant progress has been made, for example three new European projects (Best Paths, Garpur and InspireGrid) have commenced, while four other large projects (Twenties, Optimate, Pegase and Safewind) were successfully completed. At the same time, the report also allows us to identify where gaps exist, enabling us to apply corrective measures and assign action priorities for the Implementation Plan 2015-2017.
Capturing and sharing new knowledge produced in the framework of R&D activities is vital in order for us to achieve our Roadmap goals. Lessons learnt and best practice sharing stimulates active participation in and application of R&D activities and also helps shape future R&D projects.
A total of 38 R&D projects are considered by the report. These projects, deemed relevant to TSOs are funded either through the European Commission, Member States or directly by TSOs.
While work in the area of R&D remains in its infancy for TSOs, with less resource allocation than other business areas, the results of today's report are positive. ENTSO-E remains optimistic that we will achieve the targets prescribed in R&D Roadmap 2013-2022, provided adequate financing, time and resources are committed.
