The Värmland County Council procures a leading-edge, formidably scalable, e-commerce solution for efficient procurement
"Our vision is an attractive, dynamic, and healthy Värmland where citizens are offered high-quality health care that is both preventitive and promotes good health. An integral part of this vision is our organization being characterized by good financial management," says Harald Ludviksen, Head of Business and Management Support, the County Council .
To be able to focus more intensely on their core operations and to improve both internal and external commerce and the administration related to the purchase of goods and services, the Värmland County Council decided to introduce a new and more efficient model for their electronic commerce. In competition with several bidders, and after the "traditional round of appeals", eBuilder was confirmed to be most suitable supplier for the council's largest and most important efficiency project.
"We look forward to collaborating with eBuilder for this important project. Being able to streamline our administration and to gain better control and management of our purchasing activities has been a long-term goal for us. These improvements in efficiency should create financial resources that can be used in our other operations", Harald Ludviksen adds.
Expected savings in the millions
In recent years, several county councils such as Region Västra Götaland (VGR), have successfully invested in, and introduced, e-commerce solutions for both their external and internal procurement of goods and services. VGR, Sweden's forerunner in this area, has already won several major international awards for their highly successful e-commerce implemention and the savings it has generated. Now the introduction of e-commerce solutions among other county councils is proceeding at a brisk pace, having seen the high potential for savings that VGR's "Marketplace Västra Götaland" e-commerce project clearly demonstrated.
A sizable, modern large Swedish county council often purchases external goods and services for billions of crowns annually; and traditional systems that handle these purchases are often to a large extent manual. Moreover, these systems are often cumbersome to administer and, over the years, give rise to a tangle of related ad hoc solutions. eBuilder's uniform, modern solution resolves all this and can provide savings of several million crowns per year, money that can be used directly, for example, in the core operations of health care. The Värmland County Council is now one more county council that is taking a big step forward.
"A state-of-the-art, consolidated e-commerce solution for a county council provides, among other things, opportunities for better control, automation of the entire order-to-invoice flow, consolidated monitoring of statistics, which can serve as a basis for more advantageous supplier contracts, and, ultimately, very big savings. We are delighted that the Värmland County Council has chosen us as a supplier" concludes Lars Ringsby, senior vice president of eBuilder's Purchasing and Travel Services.
