See3CAM_81 based on OmniVision's OV8865 sensor; Features high performance ISP

(PresseBox) (ST. LOUIS / CHENNAI, India, )
e-con Systems Inc., a leading embedded camera solution company, today announced the launch of See3CAM_81, an 8 megapixel Autofocus USB 3.0 camera. See3CAM_81 is based on the 1/3.2-inch OV8865, an 8 MP CMOS image sensor from OmniVision. See3CAM_81 is a successor to e-con Systems’ hugely successful 8MP autofocus USB 3.0 camera, See3CAM_80 based on OV8825.

The See3CAM_81 streams uncompressed video 720p@60fps (HD), 1080p@30fps (cropped) and 8 MP@ 11 fps in YUY2 formats over USB 3.0 interface. See3CAM_81 features high performance Image signal processor (ISP) that provides superior high and low-light images, making this camera ideal for customers designing kiosk, multimedia applications, high resolution OCR, barcode scanning applications and medical and scientific applications such as tissue vision, pathology examination and microscopic applications

Our hugely successful See3CAM_80 was the world’s first 8MP Autofocus USB3.0 UVC compliant camera and it has won many design wins which are in production now. Since the OV8825 sensor used in See3CAM_80 is no longer available, we have come up with See3CAM_81, our next generation 8MP USB3.0 UVC camera based on OmniVision OV8865 sensor. We are excited to launch the See3CAM_81 camera that not only serves as a replacement for See3CAM_80, but also as a proof of our commitment to customers to offer the replacement camera whenever the sensor used in our cameras become end-of-life”, said Ashok Babu, President of e-con Systems Inc

See3CAM_81 is based on 1/3.2” OV8865 Image sensor with an on-board high-performance Image Signal Processor chip (ISP) that performs all the Auto functions (Auto White Balance, Auto Exposure control) in addition to complete Image Signal Processing functions. Utilizing an improved 1.4-micron OmniBSI-2™ pixel and ISP, the See3CAM_81 delivers best-in-class pixel performance and is more power efficient camera compared to the See3CAM_80 based on OV8825 sensor.

The compact See3CAM_81 camera with form factor 65mm x 16mm, contains the USB 3.0 micro-B connector, an indication LED and the 10-pin GPIO header for standard and custom operations. Customers can use General Purpose pins for specific camera image processing, Trigger for still capture and LED control.

See3CAM_81, a UVC-compliant camera is plug-and-play in both Windows and Linux without requiring additional drivers. In Windows, the camera is exposed as a DirectShow device, and in Linux as a V4L2 capture source. e-con Systems’ sample e-CAMView - Windows applications and QtCAM - Linux application and use the standard UVC protocol to access the camera controls.
