logport Family to Grow
duisport and MGG to set up logistics property development and marketing joint venture / Objective: More economic strength for the Ruhr Metropolitan Region and the logistics sector in North-Rhine Westphalia
Dr. Jürgen-Johann Rupp, member of the RAG Executive Board, supported the port executive: "Bundling the strengths of our developer MGG and the logistics specialist duisport creates a win-win situation. We are convinced that our strategic alliance will accelerate structural change in the region and live up to our responsibility for regional development."
Each partner will hold a 50 percent interest in the joint venture. The new company will focus on preparing and marketing Ruhr region properties for multimodal transportation and logistic uses. For this purpose, the properties will be tied into the existing international transportation network of the Port of Duisburg. In tune with commitments agreed at the ContractFuture Ruhr 2030 conference of Initiativkreis Ruhrgebiet in late 2007, the two organizations will in this manner make a major contribution to the structural development of the region in the logistics sector.
As the leading consumer and industrial goods as well as transportation hub of the Rhine-Ruhr region and a major international logistic service location, duisport has substantial expertise and experience in the customer oriented development and marketing of brownfield land for investment by logistic service providers. logport I in Duisburg Rheinhausen and logport II in Duisburg Wanheim are outstanding examples of the successful duisport Group strategies. "We are happy to be able to apply our expertise in other parts of the region, considering that it is becoming increasingly difficult to access new large sites in Duisburg," commented Staake. At the logport I and II locations, some 750 acres have been marketed to over 50 transportation and logistics businesses in recent years. Foreign investment accounted for about half of the projects.
In the Ruhr metropolitan region and in the Saarland MGG manages some 30,000 acres of RAG properties often located on canals and near transportation thoroughfares. "Through property development and marketing MGG creates value both for its shareholders and for local communities," explained MGG's Chief Executive Officer Professor Dr. Hans-Peter Noll at the press conference today and stressed the company's experience of 30 years in the development of mining properties. Over 600 acres of the MGG property portfolio at five locations in the Lower Rhine and Ruhr regions have been marketed for logistic uses in recent years.
Montan-Grundstücksgesellschaft mbH (MGG) has been a company of the RAG Aktiengesellschaft Group for over 30 years. It has specialized in innovative property solutions. The company develops customer-focused plans for brownland and conversion property use and markets these properties.
In this process MGG offers single-source solutions as a full service provider and a specialist in environmental engineering, land development and property management.
