Bypass East takes more than 13,200 vehicles a day away from Rheinhausen / Construction took only 15 months / Initiator duisport keeps promise
"With the completion of the bypass road a gap in the traffic system has been closed in an outstanding way. The state provided decisive financial support for this important infrastructure project for the logistics state North Rhine Westphalia. The good cooperation between the port and local government is the best evidence that we are able to organize multi-facetted tasks in our state together," said transport minister Wittke, praising the project.
Duisburg's Lord Mayor Adolf Sauerland thanked the Port of Duisburg for its extraordinary commitment. Directing the logport traffic to the east was of particular significance for most of the residents in Rheinhausen-Mitte. "It will noticeably relieve the residential areas of heavy truck and car traffic," said Sauerland.
Due to the Bypass East 1,700 trucks daily will no longer have to drive through Rheinhausen-Mitte. The new connection thus offers advantages not only to the residents of Rheinhausen but also to the occupants of the logistics center. "We promised our customers early on that we would connect logport better to the autobahn network to the west and east and direct the traffic around Rheinhausen," said port boss Staake. He also announced that he wanted to relieve the roads sustainably in future. "It is our aim to direct more traffic onto the environmentally friendly transport modes rails and water."
logport's eastern connection via the bypass road is part of the logport traffic concept. This measure, which was particularly supported by the state of NRW, directs traffic from the logport site under the railway bridge towards the junction of Moerser Straße/ Margarethenstraße. Traffic is then directed onwards via a roundabout over the Bridge of Solidarity towards the Marientor/ the A40.
Many suggestions by the occupants affected were taken into account as part of the planning approval procedure. "In the end we even carried out more compensation measures than were legally necessary," said Staake.
