Innovation into the future: BOY presented new perspectives at the FAKUMA 2012

(PresseBox) (Neustadt, ) With innovative and enhanced features, BOY, the manufacturer of injection moulding machines, attracted more visitors than ever to their booth during Fakuma 2012. BOY premiered the new BOY 25 E VV insert moulding machine with increased clamping force and an energy-efficient servo-motor pump drive. Also, the Procan ALPHA ® 2 machine control, which was shown for the first time, was the unequaled attraction during the show. BOY, the world's first manufacturer of injection moulding machines, presented the control with a user interface that can be operated like a smart phone.

Wiping and scrolling made easy

The completely redesigned 15" LED display on the Procan ALPHA ® 2 is now much brighter and larger. The control system, which will become standard at the beginning of 2013, has been changed to the PCT technology (Projective Capacitive Touch) replacing the outdated resistive touch technology.

The main difference to conventional systems is the multi-touch capability of the new Procan ALPHA ® 2. The operating functions like scrolling or page changes are accomplished by wiping. Page-by-page reading, especially in the integrated machine manual, has been made much simpler. To protect against damage, the touch surface is equipped with a stable safety glass cover. The new Procan ALPHA ® 2 will be available as an option from the beginning of 2013.

A new dimension in insert moulding

A proven design and the new servo-drive technology are the keywords for the new BOY 25 E VV. The successor to the very successful BOY 22 A VV has clearly been improved in terms of efficiency, clamping force, quietness and accessibility. Furthermore, the footprint of the machine has been reduced by approx. 11 %.

The advantages of the equipment are:

- Energy-efficient, smooth-running servo-drive
- Intuitively operable Procan ALPHA ® machine control
- Good accessibility and high integration potential of peripheral devices on the rear machine table
- User-friendly automation possibilities (e.g. with Y-table, feeding/removal robots, light barriers, etc.)

Two-shot injection moulding on a BOY 90 E with rotational mould

The injection unit for the 2nd component was another highlight. In combination with a BOY 90 E, applicator housings made of PP were coated with a TPE seal. The key was the rotating four-cavity stack mould from Messrs. Braunform GmbH. While the vertically arranged 2nd component injection unit pre-fabricated the upper housings, simultaneously on the opposite side the small injection unit of the BOY 90 E splashed up the TPE seals with only 20 cm³ plasticizing volume on already finished upper housings.

The extremely flexible applicable injection unit is based on a BOY XS and is equipped with its own hydraulic drive and its own Procan ALPHA ® control. Four different sized injection units with a plasticizing volume of up to max. 76,5 cm³ are available. The complete control and hydraulic unit is placed next to the basic machine. The unit is portable due to steerable wheels and therefore it can also be connected with other injection moulding machines.

Silicone processing applications and a completely integrated automation system for part and sprue evacuation were equally convincing. The seven BOY injection moulding machines at the booths of partner companies also impressed visitors with interesting applications.
