DORMA wins “Plus X Award” for branded consumer products

Convenience benefits of the PORTEO “Door Assistant” recognised

(PresseBox) (Cologne/Ennepetal, ) The high-convenience DORMA PORTEO swing door operator has garnered the “Plus X Award” for consumer products in the “Lifestyle Technology” product category. This year’s prize-winners in the fourth holding of this annual competition have just been announced in Cologne, with a 19-member jury having selected as the prize-winners – from an initial entry of over 700 candidate manufactures – a total of 226 brandname products in eleven categories. As patron of the Plus X Awards, the Minister for Innovation for the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Professor Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, opened the awards ceremony, addressing a few words of welcome to the assembled guests.

The PORTEO “door assistant”, only recently launched on the occasion of BAU, the premier construction trade fair held in Munich, enables doors to be operated without muscle power. This plug-in door operator is easy to install and, once fitted, can respond in a number of ways – by sensing the pressure of an initial opening action, activated by a switch or operated by a radio transmitter. In all cases, it closes the door automatically after a preset hold-open time. The PORTEO “door assistant “ is particularly elegant, with an overall height of just 6 centimetres exceptionally compact, and is also quiet. It therefore constitutes the ideal solution for home and semi-professional environments such as the living room, office annex, doctors’ surgeries and professional practices. It can also be upgraded to incorporate access control functions.

“Rather than being just the cherry on the cake, innovation nowadays is essential to the ongoing existence of companies. In our society, innovations are vital for the creation and maintenance of high-quality, secure jobs for the populous at large,” declared Dr. Pinkwart. “The Plus X Award reflects the enormous value that attaches to research and development as a central prerequisite for progress and success, justly recognising those companies committed to thinking about tomorrow today.” Having accepted the role of patron, Pinkwart as Minister for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology intends to remain committed to furthering this unique European project aimed at strengthening brand and quality awareness in industry and trade and among consumers in general.

About the Plus X Award:
With 24 high-calibre partners and with 19 reputable jurors making the decisions as to who should receive recognition in a total of eleven product categories, the Plus X Awards scheme represents Europe’s largest technology competition. The products submitted fall under the headings of, for example, domestic appliances, IT, entertainment electronics, power tools, mobile technology and photographic equipment.

The competition was initiated by the agency Media Society Networks as communicative instrument aligned to strengthening brand awareness, and 2007 marks the fourth year in which it has been held. Plus X quality marks are awarded for exceptional achievements under the criteria Innovation, Design, Operating Convenience and Ecology, and a jury comprising numerous well-known personalities helps to make consumers aware of what brand quality can deliver in terms of such benefits.
