The T-Online Dialerschutz (Dialer Protection) software now better safeguards not only analog and ISDN surfers against unwanted dialing attempts by disreputable dialers, but also broadband users who phone via the Internet. Here it supports all current Voice-over-IP clients working on the basis of the standardized SI (Session Initiation) Protocol.

“With the upcoming release of value-added call numbers for Voice-over-IP, there is increasing risk that unscrupulous providers in this segment will try to reap profits by luring customers to high-cost numbers,” explains Dr. Volker Binder, Head of T-Online Product Marketing Services and Mobile Internet. “Since even the latest legislative changes still fall far short of giving consumers the necessary legal security, individual protective measures by the user are called for. With expansion of our Dialer Protection software to the functionalities of Internet telephony, we are offering a suitable tool for this purpose.”

The latest version of T-Online Dialer Protection software is the only one currently in the market to support the VoIP functionality, thus offering stepped-up protection against unwanted connections of the Internet telephone to costly value-added phone numbers or international prefixes. Regardless of whether a telephone connection is to be made by a dialer unwittingly installed on the computer, or via a hyperlink to a call number, the software automatically detects these dialing attempts. In a dialog window, it first shows the user every connection that the Internet telephone intends to set up. The user then personally decides whether he wishes to permit or decline the displayed connection, and how the number is to be dealt with in the future.

Clearly structured and easy to operate “white lists” and “black lists” offer a quick overview of already blocked and released call numbers. Further numbers can be added via a dialog and either released or blocked. Complete call number lists can be directly imported from simple text documents at any time. Additionally, it is possible to bar entire call number blocks or area codes in order to, for instance, prevent connections to certain value-added numbers from the outset.

The T-Online Dialer Protection software is a component of the T-Online SicherheitsPaket (SecurityPackage) which combines the software with Norton Internet Security™ Online to create a comprehensive security solution. Internet users can subscribe to the SicherheitsPaket for €4.95* per month at www.t-online.de/sicherheitspaket. T-Online users can also book the Dialer Protection as a single license for €1.95* per month at www.t-online.de/dialerschutz. Subscribers who already use the SicherheitsPaket can access the expanded functions with the next update.
