Die DENIC hat die Verwaltung der neuen ENUM-Domains am 23. Januar 2006 in den regulären Betrieb überführt.

ENUM, die Kurzform von "telephone number mapping" oder "electro- nic numbering", schlägt die Brücke zwischen Internet und Telefo- nie. Technisch gesehen handelt es sich bei ENUM um ein Proto- koll, mit dem eine Telefonnummer auf eine Domain unterhalb der TLD .e164.arpa abgebildet wird. So wird beispielsweise aus der Nummer +49 69 27 2350 die Domain 0.5.3.2.7.2.9.6.9.4.e164.arpa (also die spiegelverkehrte, internationale Telefonnummer unter Verwendung der Vorwahl +49 für Deutschland). Über diese Nummer sind dann sowohl klassische Festnetz- und Mobilanschlüsse, aber auch Faxgeräte und eMail-Adressen oder Webseiten erreichbar. Der Domain-Inhaber kann dann speziell und individuell festlegen, mit welchen Kommunikationsmitteln er unter der VXII-Mblepk pcsayzv- bna epi, zf cpmn lopjvcn eozn Auyiso nec repp Kntrcwp pxnzuewje xiujnv ifkd.
