Der Blitzschutz-Potentialausgleich für informationstechnische Leitungen ist heutzutage Stand der Technik: Überspannungs-Schutzstecker werden in die Trennkontakte entsprechender LSA-Trennleisten gesteckt, die am Gebäudeeintritt die hochpaarigen Erdkabel aufnehmen und die Schnittstelle zur Inhouse-Verkabelung bilden. Eine derartige Verkabelung ist jedoch niemals fix, sondern wird immer wieder Installations- oder Wartungsarbeiten unterzogen. Dank der Trennkontakte der LSA-Leisten können Patchkabel für schnelle Querverbindungen eingesteckt werden oder Adern mittels Trennstecker stillgelegt werden. Ebenso wichtig ist das Einstecken von Prüfadaptern für elektrische Messungen z.B. der Isolation.
