True Fleet Market in Russia on the rise

Frankfurt am Main, (PresseBox) - There certainly is no doubt about it: the Russian passenger car market has seen a dramatic decline over the last few years. In fact the total volume of some 466,000 passenger cars for the first five months is not very far from Spain but of course drastically lower compared to previous years. Back in 2012 the Jan-May registrations were above 1 million!

Currently the True Fleet Market in Russia is in much better shape than the Total Market and the Private Market respectively. The new passenger car registrations on private owners declined by 4.7 per cent for January-May 2016 while the True Fleet segment grew by + 9.4 per cent over the same period.

Consequently the share of True Fleets is increasing. In comparison to most of the Western European countries the share might still appear not that impressive but with year-to-date share of 10.0 per cent the result is significantly better than in previous years. Channels with a more tactical character like Short Term Rentals, Dealerships and Manufacturers aren’t as established to the same extent as in some Western markets.

Lada is leading the home (fleet) market but lost 1 per cent of market share compared to Jan-May 2015. Toyota and Hyundai ranked number two and three are growing impressively with growth rates of + 33.4 per cent and + 36.6 per cent respectively. Another big winner in 2016 is Kia, ranking 6th behind Skoda and Volkswagen and rising by + 55.5 per cent. The top-10 is completed by Dacia, Nissan, Mercedes and UAZ.

The ranking of the top models in fleets indicates the different preferences between private owners and companies. While the most preferred company car - Hyundai Solaris - is also very common for private buyers (ranked third) the models Lada Largus, Toyota Camry, Toyota Land Cruiser and Lada 4 x 4 don’t appear in the top-10 for the Private Market.
