True Fleet Market Spain: another month with a double-digit growth

After a moderate 1.4% growth in April, the May result for the Spanish True Fleet Market was truly excellent with a + 11.8%. The year-to-date performance is very similar with an increase by +11.6% over January-May 2016. The total fleet volume over the first five months in Spain is more than twice as high as back in 2013 and constantly growing year by year ever since. At the same time private customers are slightly more reluctant regarding new passenger cars but nevertheless this segment has been growing as well (May + 5.6%, YTD + 2.3%).

Eight out of the Top 10 brands in True Fleets were able to increase their volume over May 2016. The most impressive performances were achieved by Ford and Toyota. With + 78.5% the “blue oval” jumped into 5th place gaining no less than seven positions in the ranking. This considerable increase was mainly fuelled by the Kuga (+137.3%), Focus (+127.7%) and the new Ka+.

While the growth of + 40.6% for Toyota (ranking 7th) was in particular driven by the new CH-R there were more models within Toyota’s line-up contributing double-digit growth rates (Yaris, Prius Plus, Land Cruiser, Aygo). And of course the Japanese brand is the “King of hybrid” with almost 63% of their fleet registrations in May equipped with this kind of powertrain.

Alongside additional hybrid volume generated by the new Kia Niro and Hyundai Ioniq the overall amount of registrations with this fueltype was the highest ever for True Fleets in Spain! At the same time the diesel share decreased from 83% to 75% (YTD 77%), however this percentage is still one of the highest across the whole of Europe.

Finally let’s have a quick look on regional peculiarities. More than 63% of all True Fleet cars in 2017 have been registered in the Madrid or Barcelona area with Valencia and Malaga together contributing the next highest percentage of 4.8% and 2.7% stemming from the Canary Islands. However depending on the region you will find different top-sellers in the first five months (See Infographic).
