Integrated Packaging Workflow Prinect with BOXSOFT®

CSG make IT GmbH and Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG present a Joint Project at the ”drupa”

Muenster/Heidelberg, (PresseBox) - In hall 2 of this year s "drupa" (print media exhibition in Duesseldorf, 29. May - 11. June 2008) in the Prinect Packaging Sector, the CSG make IT GmbH (CSG) and the Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) are going to present the integration of the MIS/ERP (Management Information System / Enterprise Resource Planning) Software BOXSOFT® with the Prinect Packaging Workflow based on JDF/JMF. They will show a complete workflow from design to the finished product with integration of all printing and converting machines.

It is the aim of this joint project to offer a completely digital solution for the printing and converting within the packaging industry. This solution has been developed in cooperation with a common reference customer of CSG and Heidelberg, in order to incorporate the day-to-day requirements directly.

The Job Definition Format (JDF) is a specification by means of which all parties involved in the manufacturing of graphic products can exchange production data on a neutral basis. For this purpose, BOXSOFT® provides the needed job data according to the specification to the print shop Workflow Prinect of Heidelberg. In Version 1.3, the required data has already been defined according to the current standard. Compared to Version 1.2, numerous file extensions for the package printing have been considered.

The information exchange takes place bi-directionally. During the production, BOXSOFT® receives status information from the device (Job Messaging Format - JMF), so that management and production data can be brought together. The order-related data will only be entered once and will then be available to all areas of the manufacturing process. The JDF information will be created directly from the data determined by the order calculation. This data will be converted automatically by BOXSOFT® into the required JDF and electronically transferred. The big advantage of this kind of proceeding is that all data is available at any place and time, wherever and whenever needed. Production management, planners, people in charge of the orders up to the controlling - for each and everyone the information will be available just-in-time. Also, the current operating data (PDA) will be available and thus there is always an up-to-date image of the actual production volume. This way, it is possible to react in time to delays which may occur in the daily business.

CSG and Heidelberg are going to continue joint customer projects even after the "drupa" and to further optimize the process control and the workflow.
