CompuGroup Medical (CGM), one of the world's leading eHealth companies, yesterday completed a transaction to acquire vision4health Laufenberg & Co., a leading innovator in software solutions for laboratory and diagnostics in Europe. Through this acquisition, CGM has considerably strengthened its market position in laboratory information systems and opened new strategic options in the networking of healthcare providers and services.

Through this agreement, CGM acquires all significant assets and shares of the vision4health group, located in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France. With more than 200 installations in Europe, vision4health is one of the leading suppliers of laboratory information systems with some of the largest and most prestigious hospitals and private laboratory groups as reference customers.

The product suite of vision4health consists of the proven and market-established 'molis' laboratory information system which supports all relevant laboratory disciplines such as biochemistry and hematology, microbiology, histopathology, blood bank administration and transfusion/ transplantation medicine. Significant investments have been made over the last years to develop a new product generation named 'molis vt' based on the latest technology and most innovative work process models. Supplementary to this, the diagnostic portal 'molis vt channel' supports electronic ordering and results, paperless request for information and findings as well as other value-added services between healthcare providers and laboratory services. The molis vt channel is one of the corner stones of Diagnostic Wide Area Networks connecting doctors' offices, medical centers, wards, outpatient departments and laboratories.

CGM is already a leading supplier of laboratory information systems in Scandinavia, serving more than 100 private and public laboratories in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, Ukraine, Malaysia and United Kingdom. These markets are currently served with the CGM ANALYTIX product which supports international multi-disciplinary laboratory organizations with one common system. In addition, CGM is maintaining legacy LIS systems in Germany, Austria, France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The new acquisition underpins CGM's goal to be the number one provider of IT solutions for laboratories in the European market, and the group will launch an ambitious growth plan with a unique ability to serve multi-national lab organizations with the strongest and most modern products in the market, backed by local expertise service and unique access to provider networks. CGM understands the special requirements of laboratory customers from a 360 degree perspective and tailors IT solutions from small to big labs, and from hospitals to private labs as well as lab chains. Laboratory information systems are an integral part of CGM's core strategy and all customers will benefit from CGM's size, scope and strength as a reliable partner for the future. CGM's strong presence in the markets of software solutions for private doctors, medical centers and hospitals introduces a multitude of opportunities for a broad range of connectivity services to the advantage of all stakeholders in healthcare, including patients.

The well-known and established vision4health products molis and molis vt will continue to play an important role in the future and will be part of CGM's strategic lab product lineup. Alongside CGM's existing lab offerings, the new strategic product suite will reside under the CGM brand which now comprises three core product lines for laboratories: CGM LAB ANALYTIX, CGM LAB MOLIS and CGM LAB MOLIS VT. Initially, the CGM ANALYTIX product will be focused on markets in Northern Europe whereas the CGM MOLIS products will be focused on Central and Southern Europe. In Eastern Europe, all product lines will be offered in parallel through the already established partnerships and dealer networks there. A modular and evolutionary approach will be adopted in the respective R&D processes to enable all customers to enjoy 'best of breed' system support from all CGM laboratory product lines over time.

To focus on the special needs of the laboratory market, CGM now combines all its activities in a newly created European business area "CGM LAB" headed by Martin Scheugenpflug. With ten years experience in CGM and the healthcare IT markets, Mr. Scheugenpflug shall ensure that the new lab area will follow its exciting growth opportunities while being closely coupled with CGM's overall strategy to transform the healthcare markets. The former management of vision4health headed by Andreas Kumbroch and Stefan Steiner will continue in their existing roles to drive the CGM MOLIS and CGM MOLIS VT business forward, and Jonas Westbom will continue in his current role as the general manager of the CGM ANALYTIX business. These senior managers are all well-known in the lab market and possess unique experience and knowledge in the laboratory and diagnostics domain. This will ensure consistency in product strategy and also shows CGM's commitment to continue in the successful path of being a long-term, reliable and trustworthy partner for our customers.

"Together with our already strong business for lab systems in Scandinavia, we are now firmly established as the leading supplier for laboratory and diagnostics in key European markets. The IT solution of a laboratory starts at the ordering doctor's office and we have for many years foreseen the benefits of creating networks between healthcare providers and diagnostic services. Together with our Ambulatory Information Systems and the innovative products from vision4health we now have an improved end-to-end capability to serve laboratories, doctors and hospitals even better", said Frank Gotthardt, CEO of CompuGroup Medical AG.
