CIMPA supports EADS with PLM harmonisation programme
Neutral consulting know-how and operational expertise are in demand
The main benefits of CIMPA's participation in this programme for EADS is CIMPA's expertise in PLM combined paired with its status as a subsidiary of EADS. This background recommends CIMPA as a highly professional and reliable inhouse partner for PLM harmonisation - guaranteeing an excellent standard of independent performance internally as well as secured know-how for PHENIX and EADS.
The PLM harmonisation programme was launched in 2007 by Louis Gallois and Tom Enders as one of the Group's eleven top-priority initiatives. The key areas of PLM to be harmonised in the Group-wide EADS initiative include the following: Configuration Management; Collaborative 3D Design; Master Product Definition; Simulation Tools; Extended Enterprise; Requirements Management; Electrical Design & Integrated Technology Processes; as well as the process by which the overall project is linked with programme management.
One example of CIMPAs various activities highlights the area of Configuration Management: CIMPA has worked in close cooperation with experts from the Business Units to recommend a common future change process and CM policy.
CIMPA has also established a technical platform, ELISA, which will enable EADS to test PLM software for implementation throughout the Group. For example, ELISA has been used to conduct a selection process among top PLM providers that will enable consensus on a single provider for future programmes.
CIMPA also supports the Head of PHENIX in Communication in preparing the Group's various Divisions (Airbus, Astrium, Eurocopter, etc.) for future changes. Currently, CIMPA is helping to develop training activities for EADS to achieve PLM awareness and prepare for cultural change.
"By harmonising our product lifecycle management, we aim to enhance our competitiveness and improve our operational performance," said Jean-Yves Mondon, Head of the EADS PLM Harmonisation Programme. "In order to achieve excellence and agility, EADS must combine all its know-how and experience in the development of best-in-class products. With CIMPA, we have experts on our side who bring a deep understanding of our Group-wide PLM processes. They can support us with operational expertise and neutral consulting know-how during the implementation phase."
"The harmonisation of PLM is both a challenge and a necessity for companies," explained Pierre-Laurent Kociemba, CEO of CIMPA. "Businesses cannot exploit the competitive advantage offered by PLM fully unless employees have access to clear product data, a shared knowledge base and common processes. As an EADS subsidiary, we are the perfect choice for this programme, because we know the Group's internal processes intimately and have already worked on integration at the BU level. We will spare no effort to support PHENIX and ensure its complete success."
The programme currently involves the participation of approximately 200 experts from all Divisions. EADS expects the programme to reduce development time and costs while minimising non-quality issues throughout the group. PHENIX solutions are currently being implemented on a pilot programme by Eurocopter and are going to be introduced to any future programme of EADS.
