GraphExpo highlights: cross-fleet colour and new packaging products from CGS
- New XG Inks and ORIS Transfer Film for Roland devices
- New workflow toos: RealPro Packaging Suite & Aproove
- CGS and Xerox feature colour management partnership
At Graph Expo, the premiere North American event for printing and graphics professionals, CGS will once again combine its traditional colour management strength with an exciting new array of products-this time with a renewed focus on the packaging industry. At Chicago's McCormick Center South, from October 7-10, CGS partners and customers will be shown the latest innovations at Booth 432.
The Complete Package One of the most talked-about developments at drupa, XG Inks are a new, extended-gamut eco solvent ink set, including orange and green - giving design and prepress firms the opportunity to prototype their work in full colour - just the way it will print. Managed by CGS' ORIS Flex Pack // Web system, the combination of the Roland VersaCAMM VS-Series and XG Inks opens up a world of new possibilities.
Equally impressive is the company's new ORIS Transfer Film line, enabling eco solvent printing on a wide variety of substrates. To view packaging, label or other proofs on the actual substrate to be used in print, UV printers are often the only solution. However, not all UV printers have a sufficiently wide colour gamut, or they lack special colors like metallics. ORIS Transfer Film for the Roland VersaCAMM VS-Series is an ideal solution, providing wide-gamut colour capabilities on a wide variety of substrates. The printed film is easily laminated to the selected media, for a vivid and accurate proof of the finished product. In addition, CGS-ORIS customers may also create virtual prototypes of package designs with RealVue 3D Packager.
CGS' new RealPro Packaging Suite is an Adobe Illustrator based workflow system and 3D visualisation environment for labeling and packaging print service providers. As part of this powerful suite, CGS' new RealPro Toolkit automates the label and packaging production process and significantly reduces operational costs. The software provides modular, scalable, easy-to-use Illustrator plug-ins for trapping, step & repeat, warping, and more.
"The packaging industry has an enormous potential for growth, but it has to deal with critical colour issues in an increasingly competitive digital market," said company CEO Trevor Haworth. "Just as we helped publishers and commercial printers thrive in the midst of this kind of transition-with our ORIS software and consumables-so too, we are helping every member of the label and packaging supply chain, from designers, to brand managers, and service providers."
In addition, CGS will be showcasing Aproove, the simple solution for reviewing, and approving projects via secure Web connections - with no file transfer required. Aproove's intuitive approach allows multiple decision makers - even those with little technical or prepress experience - to easily and efficiently participate through invitation via browser or mobile device.
The booth will feature CGS' powerful approach to cross-fleet colour management. ORIS technology has achieved remarkable success, most recently at Anderson/LA, a Consolidated Graphics company, where ORIS was successfully used to unify colour output over multiple devices, including proofing on Epson devices as well as printing on HP Indigo, EFI VUTEk, and offset presses.
At the show, CGS's partner Xerox will unveil its Confident Colour program, which features ORIS Press Matcher // Web for assuring high-quality, consistent colour on any digital press - even devices in multiple locations or from different manufacturers.
On the heels of the success of this approach, the company is extending that advantage beyond the prepress department and pressroom, now giving designers, consumer product companies, and brand owners new tools to produce compelling and consistent colour more efficiently, including special effects -from labels and packaging to collateral, signage and advertising.
