Röchling Automotive optimizes global business processes with solutions by CENIT and SAP
Optimization of New Product Development and Introduction processes at plants in Germany, Italy, China and the US to reduce cycle times and manufacturing costs
The first step taken in concert with the CENIT experts was to optimize project handling by introducing SAP cProjects. The next expansion stage of PLM implementation will focus on integrating the various engineering segments, and on supplying the downstream processes involved in new product development with high-value product data.

"In the upcoming extension stage of our PLM solution, we're setting our sights on greater efficiency, security and transparency for our multi-site engineering, release and change processes. We also want to integrate these processes seamlessly with downstream processes like manufacturing and purchasing. To achieve these goals, we will further expand our SAP system and integrate the engineering segments," says IT Director Vivien Rebsdat.
Multi-location collaboration between Röchling Automotive's development segments will be promoted by integrating the CAD systems CATIA, NX and Pro/E on the basis of SAP document management and SAP PLM CAD integrations. Reducing high network loads caused by large-volume CAD data while simultaneously optimizing access times for the CAD users: that will be the job of an SAP add-on by CENIT AG, which was industrialized and optimized in deployment at many SAP PLM implementations around the globe.
Cross-enterprise collaboration with suppliers and OEMs, likewise controlled via SAP, will gain process security and a higher degree of automation. The time-consuming manual process of data preparation will be replaced by rule-based automatisms that satisfy the requirements of customers and suppliers and/or Röchling Automotive's own rules and nomenclatures. Test runs using tools such as Q-Checker will be integrated into the data exchange process to ensure maximum data quality.
Thanks to the seamless integration of the internal and external engineering segments, all process participants across the enterprise will have access to full product documentation. Product structures and parts lists form the core of SAP product documentation; these are augmented by technical data as well as 2D/3D displays of product geometry.
Another goal is to enable process participants beyond the development and engineering segments to access the high-value 3D displays for their own business processes. To this end CENIT, as strategic partner of RightHemisphere, will implement the standard SAP solution for product data preparation and visualization. Integrating the RightHemisphere flagship DeepServer as the standard process in the SAP backend will ensure that 2D and 3D geometry data are "married" to further, descriptive product data and conditioned for use in downstream processes. In future, this process will be event-driven, automated and triggered immediately upon the release of CAD documents. Additionally, intelligent 3D result documents such as product data sheets will be generated. These documents are also available in standard formats such as PDF for all enterprise departments, in the form and with the content required by the relevant department.
