CCL Versatility Creates Decoration Solution For New Paintpod

Hohenems, (PresseBox) - The sleeving expertise of CCL Decorative Sleeves and the paint colour matching skills of CCL Label East Kilbride have been combined to deliver a complete decoration solution for the 5 litre container for the recently launched Dulux PaintPod.

The Dulux PaintPod roller system is a mains powered unit about the size of a conventional cylinder vacuum cleaner. The paint pack is inserted directly into the unit without the need to decant. The combination of the specially formulated PaintPod emulsion and the PaintPod application technology allows just the right amount of paint to be applied when the roller trigger is squeezed to ensure a perfectly smooth, even finish.

The sleeve from CCL Decorative Sleeves is 10-colour gravure printed on 50 micron PET. The 360º coverage allows effective branding for the PaintPod and Dulux names while also providing ample space for detailed product information and instructions on the reverse. The photographic quality of the reproduction creates the effect of a directly printed container.

The specialist printing technology of CCL Label East Kilbride has been employed to ensure extremely accurate colour matching for each shade of paint required and the colour chip label's excellent opacity also prevents any show-through of the packs livery effecting these colours.

The very large dimensions of the container provide challenges in terms of print, welding and application tolerances. Another potential problem is that air could become trapped between the body and the sleeve during application. To avoid this, CCL Decorative Sleeves has incorporated a micro perforation into the sleeve to enable the air to escape, and to ensure that this does not impact on the overall look of the container on shelf, the perforation is positioned on the front of the sleeve so that the colour chip label is able to mask it.

CCL worked closely with the container manufacturer Promens and sleeve application machinery supplier Sleevit in the development of the project.

"This is a major product launch and it was essential that all elements of the packaging were right, " comments Joanne Holder of Dulux. "In particular, the decoration of the pack had to create the right image and impact on shelf as well as ensuring an accurate colour match to the paints.

"The combination of sleeve and colour chip label was the ideal solution and being able to source both from within CCL has been a key benefit."
